Belfast International Airport. Also known as Aldergrove, had nearly 5.3 million passengers flying through it last year making it the second busiest airport in Ireland after Dublin. Easyjet is by far the largest airline flying currently to 15 European destinations and many more within the UK. Other airlines flying on the 32 European and 16 domestic routes include Aerlingus,Bmibaby,jet2.com,Manx2 and also Flyglobespan and Continental to America. Easyjet first arrived into Belfast in 1998 with flights to London Luton making this a cheaper option than flying to Heathrow with all of the dearer landing charges and fees in what is one of the bussiest airports in the world. Aerlingus opened their base in Belfast, their first base outside Dublin in December 2007 and in their first year carried more than 750,000 passengers on their 10 routes. Since launching its cross Atlantic flights Continental Airlines have carried nearly 400,000 passengers, and with new routes being announced almost weekly such as Jet2.com flying to Tenerife from October 09 and Bmibaby going to Prague also in October 09 its up ,up and away at Belfast International Airport.
